Baby...it's Hot!

Not that I'm complaining. I am one of those people who is cold for ten months out of the year. It takes temperatures above 30 C for me to be warm, let alone hot, and let's just say, that I am mighty comfortable.

However, Sundays are for long runs, and running in the heat is difficult. It is next to impossible to stay hydrated, and heat exhaustion can sneak up on a runner extremely quickly. Being careful is the name of the game.

So, careful I am. I met my running partner/best friend early in the morning (8 am), so that we wouldn't be running during the hottest part of the day. I froze my sports drink so that I would have icy cold liquid to gulp down. The sun was shining, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

I had a great run. For the first time in weeks, I got my long run of 42.2 kms in. It was a very slow run due to the heat, but it went by quickly, and I couldn't be happier.

Next week...an earlier start because running for four hours when you start at 8 am, still means exposure to very high temperatures, as well as a water bucket filled with ice and sponges for cooling down, and freezies to munch on.

Week # 4 of Montreal Marathon training...160.2 kms!

As for knitting, I think it's the heat, or maybe it's all the running, or it's Norah Gaughan, or it's the vodka martinis that I'm drinking while knitting Norah's pattern, but I hit a wall...

Do you see it? One pentagon, two pentagons...

...oops
....one square...

...and then another square...

Yes, I became overconfident. Yes, I was drinking and knitting and working on a Norah Gaughan pattern, thinking I was a supreme knitter who had Miss Gaughan conquered.

I blame it on the martinis. I blame it on the heat.

I ripped it apart, and came full circle back to the first two pentagons. I re-read the pattern before I had my first martini, and all is well in the world.

I will prevail. I will knit a third pentagon.

And yes, I am knitting a long sleeved, wool pullover in the middle of summer. Certifiable? You be the judge...

As for this girl, I'm spending the rest of my day doing this...

...sitting by my cool and refreshing lake, knitting, reading, swimming, and watching time go by.

May your day involve a lake...

P.S. Yes, the pattern is the "Bubble" pattern from Knitting Nature.

P.S.S. I don't like boxy pullovers either, so I'm knitting the pattern using a different gauge so it will be smaller and tighter fitting...I know, I'm pushing it...my first Norah Gaughan project that I've already screwed up, and I'm re-sizing it. I blame it on the martinis. I blame it on the heat.

Norah Gaughan is...

...drunken knitting! I cast on for her "Bubble Pullover" and had to pour myself a drink. A rather large, cold, vodka martini, in fact.

This is my first experience with Norah, and she makes my head spin.

I cannot wrap my mind around her design.

Look for yourself....

...and so on....

...yes, a series of interconnected pentagons will transform itself into a pullover.

Sure...and I've got some land in Florida to sell you.

I know, trust the designer, and all will be well. Keep knitting and the true mystery will be revealed...just hand me another martini while I knit another pentagon please.

May your day involve faith...

P.S. As for Week #4 of Montreal Marathon training...I ran 15 kms on Monday, 20 kms on Tuesday, and 21 kms today...which puts me at 56 kms during this very hot week.

P.S.S. The work thing...one word...bleh...
